Annual Village Barn Dance, 2024

We held the annual village barn dance on September 21st and Lenham did us proud, with the checked shirts and cowboy hats out in force.   The beautiful Tithe Barn was decked out with fairy lights, bunting and gingham tablecloths, making it the perfect venue as always.  The dance was a sell-out and it was wonderful to see so many enthusiastic dancers of all ages having a great time.

Andrew Barr, Chairman of The Friends of St Mary’s, welcomed everyone to the dance and explained a little about our work to preserve the church building. It was lovely to have the very skilled Whirling Skirmish back as our band for the evening and everyone enjoyed listening to them play.  Their expert caller talked us through our paces, helping us whirl to the right, spin to the left and do-si-do our partners! As soon as the dancing paused for the interval, it was time for our splendid raffle with over 40 fabulous prizes including hampers, gin, champagne, wine, vouchers, chocolates, cuddly toys and much more.  Andrew closed the evening and the tired dancers made their way home after a wonderful event. Thank you to some of our attendees for sending in some of the photos below.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported and attended the event and made it such a great sell-out night.  Thank you to the individuals and businesses who donated such generous prizes for our raffle, including Phase Hair and Beauty, The Wishful Thinker, Lenham Farm Shop, The Fig Tree Spa, The Square Fish Cafe, The Dog and Bear, Lenham Film Club, Phil Jarvis and Chilston Park Hotel.   A particular thanks to The Lenham Focus for their very generous donation which helped us to pay for the band and to Kent Loves… for support and for selling the tickets.

The barn dance is an important part of our annual fundraising activity, as we work to maintain and preserve our Grade I listed church building.  The proceeds from the dance will go towards our future renovation projects.   We’re very grateful for all of the support we’ve received which has yet again made this such a successful and enjoyable event.

Yee-ha!
