We held the annual village barn dance on September 20th and the checked shirts and cowboy hats of Lenham were out in force as usual. The beautiful Tithe Barn was decked out with fairy lights, bunting, gingham tablecloths and flowers, making it the perfect venue as always. The dance was a wonderful success and it was particularly great to see so many children having a fabulous time.
It was lovely to have the very skilled Whirling Skirmish back with us and everyone enjoyed listening to them play. Their expert caller talked us through the different steps, providing plenty of assistance and encouragement, not to mention a good few jokes along the way! We held our splendid raffle during the interval, with an impressive array of prizes which included whiskey, wine, vouchers, chocolates and cuddly toys. Andrew Barr, Chairman of The Friends of St Mary’s, explained a little about our vital work to preserve the church building.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported and attended the dance and made it such a memorable event. Thank you to the individuals and businesses who donated such generous prizes for our raffle, including Westwell Wines, Phase Hair and Beauty, The Fig Tree Spa, Chequers Fish Bar, Lenham Film Club and Lenham Social Club. A particular thanks to The Lenham Focus for their very generous donation which helped us to pay for the band. A final thanks to the wonderful Jo of Kent Loves… who is always so supportive of our events and who was kind enough to sell the tickets for us once again.
The barn dance is a key element of our annual fundraising activity, as we work to maintain and preserve our Grade I listed church building. We’re pleased to confirm that the proceeds of the dance were over £1,000, which will go towards our future renovation projects, in particular our next big project to repair the tower roof. We’re very grateful for all of the support we’ve received which has yet again made the barn dance such a successful and enjoyable event.
