Fun Dog Show

Sunday June 19th, the Tithe Barn Lenham

We had a wonderful time at our Fun Dog Show in June. The weather had threatened to spoil things, but other than the odd spot of rain, the day was mostly sunny and not too hot for the dogs attending. We were amazed by the number of dogs and their owners wanting to enter classes.  With around 120 dogs entering, we apologise if your first choice of class was full.

The classes ran smoothly thanks to our steward Suzie Boyd, ably assisted by Poppy, George & Avery.  Lenham’s very own Jason Docherty was our compere and brought his inimitable style to the day.  We met some wonderful dogs throughout the classes and our local volunteer judges did a fabulous job in selecting the winners.  A special mention must go to Rev. John Huggins who paid a visit to the Whizzbang Face Painting stall before judging The Dog Father class and so really looked the part!

Best in Show was judged and sponsored by Tom Moore of Best-Behaved Buddys and the top prize of the day went to Mouse, a 4-year-old Tibetan Mastiff shown by Nikki.  Reserve Best in Show was Coco, a 10-year-old brown Toy Poodle shown by 9-year-old Misa.

Our Have-a-go Agility was organised by Lenham local Julie Dowle, who has been training and competing at agility for about 20 years.  Julie provided a demo on the agility course with three of her dogs, Betty Boop, Dissy and Titserlina.  Lots of our canine visitors tried out the course, with help from Julie where needed and Julie kindly let children have some fun trying out the course with her experienced dogs.

There was plenty to do throughout the day with stalls to visit and games to play; the tombola went down a storm and the Guides did a great job of running the Tin Can Alley stall.   For those of you who entered our competitions, the weight of our fabulous cake was 2.5kg and there were 117 treats in the dog treat jar.  Guess the Weight of the Dog was courtesy of Digby the handsome Bernedoodle and his owners Dean and Laura; Digby weighs 48.8kg.   There were plenty of food and drink options available too.  The delicious BBQ run by Lenham Social Club was in high demand, as were Kent Loves… and the Sweetie Chockie Bickie Company.  Our Friends of St Mary’s cake stall was a sell-out.

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported the event and The Friends of St Mary’s charity. Thank you to all our local sponsors, judges and stall holders. We hope everyone enjoyed the day as much as we did!
